Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about our tools, your privacy, and the sleep questions we hear most.

Common questions

Is Sleep Help Center a sleep clinic?

No. We're an educational website, not a clinic or sleep lab. We don't diagnose or treat sleep conditions. See how to find an accredited sleep center if you need testing.

Are your tools really free?

Yes. The Sleep Diary, 7-Day Sleep Journal, Evening Routine Planner, and Bedroom Comfort Checklist are free, with no account or email required.

Where does my Sleep Diary data go?

Nowhere. It's saved only in your own browser's local storage on your device. We never receive it. You can download a backup, export a spreadsheet, or delete everything any time.

Will I lose my diary if I switch phones?

Your entries live on the device and browser where you made them. Use Download backup on the Backup & privacy tab, then Restore from backup on your new device.

How much sleep do adults need?

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine and Sleep Research Society recommend that adults regularly get 7 or more hours of sleep. Read more.

What's the best treatment for insomnia?

For chronic insomnia, cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) is the recommended first-line treatment. Learn how CBT-I works and where to find it.

When should I see a doctor about my sleep?

If you have trouble sleeping three or more nights a week for three months, snore loudly with pauses or gasping, fall asleep during the day without meaning to, or notice unusual behavior during sleep. See the full list.

Do you test the products you write about?

Our product guides explain what to look for and the trade-offs between types. We don't claim lab testing we haven't done, and we don't publish star ratings or fake reviews.

Do you earn money from product links?

Some product links are affiliate links, which may earn us a small commission at no extra cost to you. They never decide what we recommend. Read our disclosure.

When will the 30-Night Sleep Reset Journal be available?

Soon. In the meantime, the free 7-Day Sleep Journal uses the same approach for one week.
